IMG_0327We recently held Virtuoso’s Chairman’s Event at The Gleneagles Hotel in Perthshire, Scotland.  This annual event gives Jesse Upchurch, Virtuoso’s Chairman and my dad, the opportunity to recognize and thank the Virtuoso Network’s top producers.

The Gleneagles Hotel is now in my top 10 family destinations in the world.  I had a great time clowning around on their kid-sized Land Rover, but I can’t wait to return with my family so my kids can have a turn at the wheel.Surrounded by the timeless setting of the Scottish castles and hills and of course, visions of Mel Gibson in Braveheart, our hosts – VisitScotland, The Gleneagles Hotel, and Connoisseurs Scotland – shared their traditions of golf, falconry, shooting, riding, carriage driving, and – of course – whiskey.

I visited Scotland years ago, but last month, after nearly a week of exclusive access, I left with a completely new perspective of a young country that is bold and courageous.

From the crew aboard the Royal Yacht Britannia to the Minister of Tourism to the friendly locals, the Scots opened their hearts and gave us a warm welcome.

I must say Patrick Elsmie, Managing Director of The Gleneagles Hotel, appeared to feel as comfortable in Highland dress as I would be in jeans and a t-shirt. Great Scot!

My personal Return On Life™ moment was having the honor of wearing a kilt made from the official Virtuoso tartan that was commissioned and registered by VisitScotland to commemorate our Chairman’s Event.

  1. I had the honor and wonderful experience to be stuck in jet with the vibrant JESSE UPCHURCH. Five hours of fun being late leaving from LAS. He gave me his card and our family took a trip to London and he arranged for us to stay at the 51. The Ambassador’s Suite was about as big as my house.

I had no idea his family was into new space shuttles! Incredible. My baby sister, trained at Purdue and was a flight instructor at Pepperdine.

If my records are correct, today is his birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY JESSE UPCHURCH! Wherever you are and what ever you are up to; I would love to have another 5 hours with you, preferably not on a runway. But maybe in First Class!
