Dallas Shaw, Fashion Illustrator
Oscar de la Renta, Christian Louboutin, and other fashion icons turn to Wilmington, Delaware-based Dallas Shaw for ink-and-watercolor sketches that pop. Now Shaw is helping newlyweds at The St. Regis Princeville Resort capture their big day on Kauai’s North Shore. The resort recently partnered with the 36-year-old illustrator and author – her guide to creating a personal style, The Way She Wears It (William Morrow), hits shelves in March – for exclusive illustrations, either drawn from a photo or in person at the nuptials.
When drawing a person, I start with: Circles and more circles – my training as a Disney illustrator comes out every time.
Favorite wardrobe trick I’ve picked up from the pros: Invest in designer flats. You’ll feel chic whether traveling, navigating a meeting-packed day, or running errands nonstop.
Wedding trend I’m most excited about: Headpieces. I saw the most beautiful piece at the BHLDN preview recently and wish it was acceptable for everyday wear.
Best style tip for brides: Choose a hairstyle and makeup that feel most like you, so you’ll feel confident and comfortable.
… and for grooms: The bride is probably right.
Personal uniform for Hawaii: An off-the-shoulder dress, nude Tevas, a woven backpack, a flower behind my ear, and a Kauai trucker hat – complete with a street-chicken silhouette. See my Instagram.
Favorite discovery on Kauai: Kauai Juice Co. They have outposts in Kapaa, Kilauea, and Koloa.
Surf, snorkel, or sunbathe? Sunbathe. The view from The St. Regis pool is breathtaking; I’ve spent entire days there.
Personal style mantra for 2017: Let go. Hawaii has taught me to relax a little bit, and I’m taking that philosophy right into my closet.
