The founder and creative director of stationery and home goods company Dear Annabelle on where she’s been, where she wants to go, and where to shop for custom stationery abroad.
This past winter break I traveled with my family to New Zealand for two weeks. We visited both the North and South Islands and stayed at the fabulous Robertson Properties (Kauri Cliffs, Matakauri Lodge, and The Farm at Cape Kidnappers) and the Huka Lodge (pictured above). The landscape was like nothing I’d ever seen – both intensely rugged and incredibly picturesque. A highlight was a helicopter tour of Milford Sound, including a glacier landing.
Another favorite was a boat trip with friends in Italy. We started in Capri and then sailed down to the Aeolian islands in Sicily. We hiked up the island of Stromboli at sunset and sand-skied down, which was absolutely thrilling.
The hotel staff at La Réserve Paris is beyond welcoming, and they treat us like family every time we come. I love the intimate nature of the hotel – it feels more like a small apartment or house than a hotel. In my opinion, J.K. Place Capri is one of the chicest hotels in the world. The interior design is fabulous, the lobby and restaurant are gorgeous, and the rooms (and even bathrooms) are perfection. The patio at J.K. is my favorite spot to have cocktails at sunset on Capri.
There are so many great hotel options in London, but my favorite is by far The Connaught. The Connaught Bar, hidden in back of the hotel, is my favorite place to start a night out on the town and end for a nightcap. The ambience is pure theater and the drinks are killer.
Whenever I’m in a new city, I always make time to visit stationery, paper, and pen shops. For custom-engraved stationery, I love Benneton in Paris and Pettinaroli in Milan. There’s also a fabulous store in London called Present & Correct that sells everything from pens and erasers to vintage office ephemera.
There are so many places I’m dying to see. Machu Picchu and Greece’s Cyclades islands are on both on my short list. I’m also hoping to make it to Antarctica. It’s been a dream since I was a child to visit all seven continents and that’s the only one I haven’t been to – yet.
