VSS Unity glides home after its second powered flight.

Higher Calling

Virgin Galactic pilots Dave Mackay and Mark “Forger” Stucky were at it again this week, testing VSS Unity’s rocket motor high above the Mojave Desert. The second supersonic test flight of the company’s spaceplane featured an engine burn of 31 seconds, climbing to 114,500 feet and a top speed of Mach 1.9, before gliding back down to California’s Mojave Air and Space Port where spaceline founder Richard Branson cheered his team on.
