Local food and drink are an essential ingredient of travel, offering an immediate connection to people, history, and place. With that in mind, Silversea is launching S.A.L.T. (Sea and Land Taste), an extensive culinary enrichment program on board the new ultra-luxury, all-suite Silver Moon, debuting in 2020.
Imagine discovering indigenous ingredients with a local chef, sipping favorite elixirs with a family winemaker, or listening to the tales of a third-generation baker, farmer, or cheese monger. Thanks to Silversea’s extensive network of regional experts, experiences like these are on the agenda, adding genuine texture and colorful detail to each port of call in surprising, fun, and informative new ways.
Tasty discoveries won’t stop at the gangplank. On board, guests will be able to hit up the S.A.L.T. Lab for interactive cooking classes and demonstrations. Adding more zest to S.A.L.T.’s program will be the no-main-dining-room setup on Silver Moon. Instead of convening in one large space, guests can choose among the ship’s eight dining venues, dressing up or keeping it casual as the spirit takes them. With new flavors and high-quality, locally sourced ingredients that evoke the sailing destination of the day, there is always something new to taste.
“The new S.A.L.T. program is going to be really fun for guests,” says Virtuoso travel advisor Ralph Iantosca. “I personally can’t wait to meet chefs and try specialties in places such as Malta, Sicily, Basque country, and southern France. I enjoy anticipating the unexpected. After all, that’s what we want when we travel, isn’t it?”
To create this one-of-a-kind program, Silversea hired Adam Sachs, a three-time winner of the prestigious James Beard Foundation Journalism Award. Sachs brings to the Silversea table an unrivaled passion peppered with vast knowledge, insatiable curiosity, and a hearty appetite for tailoring culinary stories.
“In Romblon, we went to the private home and learned firsthand how to make a dish that’s cooked nowhere else in the Philippines,” says Sachs, describing the program-in-development for the press. “The next day we were back on board, enjoying a conversation about the history of Filipino food. It’s one thing to enjoy a delicious taste; it’s another thing to really come away with a deeper appreciation of a place and its flavors.”
Silver Moon’s inaugural season begins in August 2020 in the Mediterranean, Adriatic, and Atlantic, with itineraries that include Malta, Croatia, Italy, France, Montenegro, Albania, Greece, Spain, and Turkey. With such diverse and intriguing destinations, and S.A.L.T.’s commitment to share the full flavors of each, the opportunity to soak up new perspectives is unbeatable.
S.A.L.T. is a natural extension of Silversea’s companywide mantra of sophisticated, enriching travel, and the amenities on board the 596-passenger Silver Moon ensure a relaxing and entertaining voyage. All of Silver Moon’s suites are appointed with the conveniences any modern cruiser loves: plenty of storage, large walk-in closets, outlets for all your gadgets, comfortable beds, and high-end sheets and towels. You’ll also enjoy complimentary drinks all day and night, with about 60 different complimentary wines available, as well as Silversea’s hallmark top-notch service, whether you’re lounging by the pool, indulging in a spa treatment, or asking your suite’s butler to make dinner reservations.
Silversea’s elegant but easygoing style is omnipresent, and the S.A.L.T. culinary program only enhances what cruisers now expect of floating holidays.
“The desires of our discerning guests continue to evolve,” says Barbara Muckermann, Silversea’s chief marketing officer. “While they have always expected the finest gastronomy, they increasingly want to enrich their travels by deep diving into the world’s richest culinary cultures, sampling authenticity and generations of knowledge. S.A.L.T. enables them to do this like never before.”
