The following Editor’s Note by Elaine Srnka, Editorial Director & Vice President, Content, appears in the January/February 2018 issue of Virtuoso Life:

This is a travel magazine for real travelers. While some newsstand magazines have a readership of armchair travelers, Virtuoso Life is published exclusively for Virtuoso travel advisors’ top clients – which means you likely hold a passport and you’re not afraid to use it.

As you’d expect, our editors and designers (pictured below) are also avid travelers. We logged thousands of air miles among us last year, and our relationships with Virtuoso’s network of advisors and travel companies around the world help us stay ahead of trends. Editorial planning meetings involve lots of globe spinning, and even casual conversations involve travel – where we’ve been, where we’re going, where we want to go, where we’re embarrassed to admit we haven’t been (yet). We constantly debate carry-on essentials, the best luggage, and packing strategies. There’s probably not a place on the planet at least one of us wouldn’t visit – and we’re all ready to hop on a plane at a moment’s notice.

We vet every destination, trip, and trend in this magazine and back them up with insight from expert advisors. But it’s a big world: so many places, so little time, and so many ways to do it right. With a new year upon us, now’s the time to make travel resolutions. Mine? Map out a two-year travel plan. My daughter has just two winter, spring, and summer breaks before she goes off to college, and I want to make the most of them. Here are ours. What about yours?
